Marqués de Riscal "XR" Reserva 2021 75cl.
In Marqués de Riscal there were cellar wines within its Historical Reserve such as Reserva Medoc and XR without becoming commercial names. In the style of Bordeaux foremen, the winemaker wrote the word XR with chalk on the barrels in which he found some special characteristics that were not found in others. These wines were never marketed, but they were always a reference for the cellar master. This custom lasted almost a century, between the harvests of 1869 and 1964. Ideal to accompany legumes, poultry, lamb chops, sweetbreads, stews, roasts, grilled or grilled meats. Prizes and scores:

Description
PREPARATION
Grapes: 90% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano
The Marqués de Riscal Reservas are basically made from grapes from Tempranillo vines planted before the 1970s, located in the best calcareous clay soils of the Rioja Alavesa. This variety supports aging in wood and bottle aging well thanks to its good acid balance and fine tannicity. The Graciano variety, whose percentage in the mixture does not exceed 10%, provides freshness and vividness of color. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature with a maceration time that does not exceed 12 days. The Riscal reserves remain for approximately two years in American oak barrels, creating a wine that fits within the canons of Rioja classicism, fresh, fine, elegant and with great aging potential. Before going on the market, it has a minimum bottle aging period of one year.
TASTING
View: Very covered, intense cherry-colored wine with hardly any signs of evolution.
Nose:
On the nose it is very expressive with notes of licorice, cinnamon and black pepper, where the long aging in wood is barely noticeable, thanks to its great complexity and concentration of ripe fruit.
Mouth:
In the mouth it is fresh, with very pleasant polished tannins, with good structure but easy to drink. The finish is long and leaves slight balsamic memories of high quality. Recommended temperature: Between 16º and 18ºC.
