Description
PREPARATION
Grapes: 100% Tempranillo.
If there is something that characterizes Bodega Matarromera, it is its ability to produce wines for aging in the Ribera del Duero. There are many reasons, but the key is in the raw material, or in other words, in the vineyard or hawthorn. For the production of the Matarromera Reserva 2018 red wine, hawthorns with vines that are more than 25 years old and with moderate vegetation were chosen, which give rise to smaller grape clusters and grains. These types of strains occur, above all, at higher altitudes, and limestone soils located at more than 750 meters above sea level. Fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks for a period of 10-14 days at 26ºC. The aging was for 18 months in new, fine-grained, medium-toasted American oak barrels from Missouri, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Minnesota. The end of maturation of the 2014 harvest was very slow but very balanced, due to a rainy and mild winter, a hot spring and a dry and mild summer. The harvest of the plot took place during the second week of October.
TASTING
View: Beautiful very ripe cherry red color with an intense garnet rim, very covered in layer.
Nose: Great complexity, elegance and fragrance; The first aromatic notes correspond to notes of black fruits (blackberries and cherries), followed by hints of cocoa, to finish with soft background notes of roasted coffee and spices.
Mouth: Very well structured and with good acidity that will allow it to evolve for a long time in the bottle. Fruity character that remains in balance with the soft notes provided by the barrel. Complex final persistence of very long duration.
Recommended temperature: 17-18ºC.
