Pura Vida Añejo 70cl.

Pura Vida Añejo 70cl.

Following in the wake of the range created by the French house Les Bienheureux in collaboration with the terroir of Costa Rica, the Pura Vida Rum Añejorepresents the natural evolution towards the maturity of the wood, maintaining the vibrant and optimistic character of the brand. The aging process completely transforms the original base of sugar cane, providing a much more complex and enveloping aromatic palette.

High humidity and warm temperatures accelerate the interaction between the distillate and the oak wood (usually barrels that previously contained bourbon). This allows the rum to acquire in fewer years a depth, a roundness and a dissolution of the tannins that in cold climates would require a much longer aging period.

Winemaking

Unlike traditional rums that are limited to a single origin of raw material, Pura Vida Añejo is made by assembling three families of distillates from sugar cane in the Costa Rican region of Guanacaste:

  • Pure cane juice rum

  • Cane honey rum

  • Molasses rum

Sugar cane grown under the Costa Rican sun, rich in sucrose, is used, combined with highly pure spring water.

The fermented musts are distilled using a combination of traditional stills and modern columns, seeking maximum cleanliness of the alcohol without losing the organic identity of the cane.

The rum rests in oak barrels under the warm and humid conditions of Costa Rica's tropical climate, which naturally accelerates the interaction between the distillate and the wood (the part of the angels), softening the tannins aggressive in a few years. Subsequently, under the supervision of the master blenders of Les Bienheureux, the aging process is complemented by the use or passage through French oak barrels (including traditional cognac barrels), polishing the aromatic profile towards rounder notes of vanilla, sweet spices and dried fruits.

The final phase consists of a rigorous blending or mixing of the selected barrels to guarantee a perfect consistency, resulting in a Bright, balanced amber rum, with a velvety texture and an extremely sweet organoleptic profile.

Tasting notes

View:

Golden amber color with coppery and bright flashes, which shows the passage of time in the barrel.

Nose:

Warm and welcoming aromas where notes of bourbon vanilla, toasted caramel and honey stand out, intertwined with nuances of ripe tropical fruits, orange peel and a subtle spicy background of sweet oak.

Mouth:

Soft, unctuous and round entry. On the palate it offers a silky texture with balanced flavors of molasses, dried fruits (such as toasted almonds), cocoa and a touch of fine wood that melts into a persistent, warm and pleasantly sweet finish.

Food pairing

  • Alone or with a large ice cube (on the rocks): It is the ideal way to appreciate the evolution of its aromas as the distillate is slightly oxygenated in the glass.

  • Desktop cocktails: Works outstandingly in sophisticated versions of classics such as the Old Fashioned rum or as an accompaniment a good coffee or a mild cigar.
