PREPARATION
The Macallan Oscuro is extracted only from oak barrels that have previously housed Oloroso Sherry. An exceptionally high proportion of them are filled first, giving the whiskey a deep, vivid color as well as an intense flavour. When the casks are at their optimum point of maturation, the whiskey is carefully reduced to an alcohol by volume percentage of 46.5% using natural spring water from wells located under The Macallan Estate. It is then matured in resting barrels for a minimum of six months, allowing the flavors to blend and unify. It does not undergo a new alcohol reduction process and is filtered at room temperature, not cold, before being bottled and ready for enjoyment.
TASTING
View: Burnished color.
Nose: Aroma of ripe berries, dark chocolate, orange and creamy vanilla.
Mouth: Flavor of delicate fruits, intense sweetness and spices, dried figs, ripe oranges and a touch of fresh apples. Intense and persistent finish, with a touch of warm smoky wood.
