Winemaking

Grapes: 100% Merlot

Petrus wines seem to deserve all the superlatives bestowed upon them and the almost mystical devotion of wine aficionados. It is a unique wine, the most concentrated and richest in Pomerol. However, despite its power, the secret of Petrus's greatness lies in its remarkable balance and penetrating aroma, which distinguish it not only from other Pomerol wines but also from all other wines.

This unique character is due, in part, to the nature of the soil in its vineyards. Clay predominates both on the surface and in the subsoil, unlike its neighbors where sand is abundant. Here, the Merlot grape finds its ideal soil. The vines are very old, thanks in part to Mr. Loubat (the owner), who refused to uproot the vineyard after the disastrous frosts of 1956 and patiently waited for the vines to recover.

These exceptional vineyards and terroir were complemented by the expert hand of Jean-Cleaude Berrouet, one of the world's most renowned winemakers, who oversaw its vinification for 40 years until his retirement in 2007, when he passed the torch to his son Olivier. Berrouet established a firm and sometimes unconventional style, favoring elegance over extraction, a style that has slowly gained worldwide recognition and ultimately made Petrus one of the world's great wines.

Fermentation in cement tanks at controlled temperature and 28 months of aging in 100% new French oak barrels.

Tasting notes

View:

The color of the cloak is a stunning deep purple hue, with delicate garnet undertones that enhance its beauty.

Nose:

The aroma is like an unfurled fan of notes reminiscent of dark fruits, a touch of cassis cream, truffles and violets, all in harmony with subtle hints of roasted cocoa and black tea.

Mouth:

A smooth entry on the palate is followed by a velvety texture that unfolds carefully, revealing exceptional freshness and breadth. The flavors that emerge include the sumptuousness of cooked red and black fruits, as well as hints of gently spicy notes, all enveloped in remarkably elegant tannins. The finish is long and moving. This Pomerol is truly unique in style and character.

Food pairing

We recommend decanting it and serving it in a Riedes Bordeaux-style glass for the best tasting experience.
